A recent research article by Talyka et al. (2024), originating in Maryia Talyka´s bachelor thesis, highlights the fast fashion industry’s significant greenhouse gas emissions and the ambiguity of its decarbonization efforts. Analyzing the sustainability initiatives of the top five fast fashion brands, the study found that while attempts to reduce emissions exist, they fall short of achieving net zero in the coming decades. The industry must adopt a comprehensive sustainability approach, focusing on long-term solutions to mitigate its environmental impact and reduce GHG emissions across the supply chain.
