Outbound Erasmus+ Student Information

Expand your horizons – study at one of UNYP’s Erasmus partner universities.

UNYP strongly believes in the value of international education. As a member of the Erasmus+ program, UNYP is able to provide its students with the opportunity to study within their field at partner institutions throughout Europe.

The European Commission, which facilitates the Erasmus+ program, also provides support mechanisms for students participating in the Erasmus+ program, such as free language training and cost-of-living support.

UNYP strongly encourages all of its students to explore the possibility of studying abroad. Information on the Erasmus+ program for UNYP students is provided below:

  • You must take and complete at least 12 US credits (24 ECTS) while abroad
  • You must have no incomplete grades from previous semesters

During your exchange, you are expected to maintain a full-time enrollment at the host institution and comply with the rules and regulations (academic, codes of conduct, financial) of the host institution.

Application

The Center for Global Engagement will evaluate each Outbound Erasmus/Exchange application according to the criteria below.  Upon submission, your application will be evaluated and, based on your preferences and on the points you earn, we will place you to one of the universities from your preference list.

As there are limited spots at each partner university every year, and as many students are applying to the same universities, spots at preferred universities will be awarded to students who score the highest on the scale below.

Once you are placed at a university from your preference list, the CGE department will contact you to confirm that you would like to move forward with your placement.

Application Evaluation Rubric

  • Larger weight to students who submit their applications early (6 weeks prior to deadline at the earliest)
  • Larger weight to students who are in their 2nd and 3rd year at UNYP
  • Larger weight to students who are applying to a school that has courses in their program
  • Larger weight to strong motivation statement
  • Extra point for students with a contribution to UNYP (leading a student club, Gaudeamus/TEDx/Orientation week help, etc.)

We ask students to list three universities they would be happy to study abroad at. This is recommended as we have limited places at each partner university. When processing your application we will aim to give you the first university listed, however, depending on demand, we may have allocate you to any of the universities you have listed. Therefore, we ask student to have an equal interest in all of them.

To apply:

  • Make an appointment with CGE and indicate 3 universities you wish to go to
  • Fill in the application
  • Write a statement of purpose – A 300-word statement about why you want to go on exchange. Think of the statement as a written interview. Tell us why UNYP should choose you over other applicants. You should outline:
    – 1. Where you want to go (first preference institution).
    – 2. Why you want to go there (academic reasons, personal interest, career prospects, etc.).
    – 3. How will this program benefit you (personally, academically, and/or for your career pursuits).
    – 4. Any relevant experience(s) you have had.
