Digitalisation and robotisation are reshaping economies worldwide, and the Czech Republic is no exception. In this article, researchers Doc. Ondřej Dvouletý and Dr. David Anthony Procházka explore how the country advances in the digital age.
They highlight improvements in key areas, such as the Digital Economy and Society Index and the E-Participation Index, which measures how governments use technology to connect with citizens.
The gap is narrowing, while the Czech Republic still lags behind the European Union average. The study reveals a strong connection between digital progress and economic performance, including GDP per capita, labor productivity, employment, and overall economic activity.
However, there’s a challenge: official statistics are struggling to keep up with the fast pace of digitalisation. This makes it difficult to grasp its impact or to create effective policies.
The article concludes by calling for better data collection and outlining the obstacles the country needs to overcome to build a robust, future-ready digital strategy.
