Professor Óscar Hidalgo-Redondo serves as the Dean of the School of International Relations at the University of New York in Prague (UNYP). A native of the Basque Country in Spain, he earned an M.Phil. by research in Politics and Government from the University of Kent at Canterbury and an M.A. in Politics and Sociology from the University of the Basque Country (UPV-EHU).
Since joining UNYP in 2001, Professor Hidalgo has been a pivotal figure in the institution's academic community. He teaches courses in politics and international relations, with a particular affinity for Comparative Political Systems and Classics of Political Theory. His dedication to education was recognized in 2005 when he received the Outstanding Faculty Award for Teaching Excellence.
In 2007, he assumed the role of Chair of the Department, allowing him to influence curriculum development and faculty selection. Under his leadership, the School of International Relations has introduced new disciplines such as Diplomacy & International Law, Conflict & Security Studies, and Global Governance, reflecting evolving academic needs.
Professor Hidalgo's research interests encompass political violence, nationalism, regionalism, and Southern European politics. He is particularly focused on finding solutions to modern conflicts characterized by non-traditional armed violence.
Beyond his administrative and research roles, Professor Hidalgo values the impact he has on his students. He believes that earning the respect and gratitude of students is the most significant achievement in his academic career, emphasizing the importance of helping others learn and fostering critical thinking.
