Marek Minárik
In 1993 he completed his undergraduate study in Physical and Macromolecular Chemistry at the Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague, and partly at the Institute for Analytical Chemistry, University Vienna. In 2001 he received a Ph.D. in bioanalytical chemistry from Northeastern University in Boston developing instrumentation for DNA sequencing used in the Human Genome Project. Between 2000 and 2002 he worked on applications for clinical and forensic DNA testing in the R&D department at Molecular-Dynamics (later Amersham Biosciences) in Sunnyvale, CA. In 2002 he moved back to Prague and co-founded Genomac, a private DNA research and testing laboratory, where he served as a CEO over the next 17 years. In 2019 he founded Elphogene, a Genomac spin-off, commercializing its proprietary cancer diagnostics technology. In addition, since 2015 he is serving as a CEO of Watrex Praha, a leading manufacturer of laboratory hardware instrumentation based in Prague. In 2018 he habilitated in Medical Biology and Genetics at the 1st Faculty of Medicine, Charles University, and is currently teaching as an associate professor at the Faculty of Sciences. His main area of research interest is the development of tools and technologies for DNA analysis with an emphasis on clinical applications in the field of molecular cancer diagnostics. In 2024, he received an MBA from the University of New York In Prague. He authored over 80 scientific papers, 7 book chapters, has a WOS H-index of 25, and 6 issued patents (3x US, 1x EU, 1x International, 1x CZ).
