School of Psychology

Our mission

We prepare students to succeed in the increasingly international world of psychology. Our curriculum is designed to meet the guidelines of both the American Psychological Association and the EuroPSY guidelines of the European Union.

Our vision

To increase the visibility of our school as the only psychology program in the region offering students different degree options in psychology. Together with our partner universities, as well as faculty and students from around the world, we aim to bridge cultural differences through education, cooperation and research.

Our broad-based student learning goals

Students will:

  • Acquire the relevant discipline knowledge and competencies suitable to their program of study.
  • Have the opportunity for self-exploration and develop a clear focus on their future career goals.
  • Gain theoretical and practical experiences in and out of the classroom, such as volunteer work, which will provide them with advantages when later seeking admission to graduate programs or employment.

Our broad-based operational goals

The School of Psychology will:

  • Recruit and retain a faculty team that excels at teaching and is engaged in ongoing professional and/or research activities in numerous fields of psychology.
  • Encourage an atmosphere of open intellectual discourse and foster tolerance, mutual understanding and an egalitarian approach to teaching and learning.
  • Provide a student-centred, multicultural learning environment which celebrates diversity in all its forms.

Our intended learning outcomes for psychology students

Students will:

  • Understand the many fields of psychology which are open to them for their future careers.
  • Have the foundational knowledge to move smoothly and successfully into graduate programs in psychology or any of the social sciences.
  • Have practical experience in the mental health field through our cooperation with local mental health care facilities, such as the Prague Psychiatric Center at Bohnice Hospital. Additionally, our cooperation with the Czech Academy of Science offers students opportunities for participation in developmental and cognitive science.
  • Gain strong fundamental research skills in design, implementation, data collection, data analysis and reporting of research findings.
