Navigating Prague: Transport Guide for Students

Welcome to Prague! As a foreign student at UNYP, you’ll find that Prague offers an excellent public transportation system, making it easy to explore the city and get to campus. Here’s everything you need to know about getting around in this vibrant and student-friendly city.

Public Transport Overview

Prague boasts a well-connected and reliable public transport network consisting of metro, trams, and buses, all operated by the Prague Public Transit Company (DPP). With a single ticket, you can seamlessly switch between these modes of transport. The system operates from early morning to midnight, with night trams and buses available after hours.

Transport Options

  1. Metro
The Prague Metro has three lines (A, B, C) that connect key parts of the city, including the city center, residential areas, and major transit hubs. Trains run every few minutes, making it the fastest way to travel longer distances.
  2. Trams
Prague’s iconic trams are perfect for short and scenic trips. With over 20 daytime and several night lines, they are an essential part of the city’s charm.
  3. Buses
Buses cover areas not reached by the metro or trams, including some suburban areas. They’re especially useful for late-night travel.
  4. Bikesharing
For shorter trips, consider using one of Prague’s many bike-sharing services, such as Rekola or Nextbike. Look for designated bike lanes for a safe ride.

Tickets and Passes

Prague uses a unified ticketing system, and you can purchase tickets for:

  • Short rides (30 minutes): 30 CZK
  • Long rides (90 minutes): 40 CZK
  • 1-day (24 hours): 120 CZK
  • 3-day (72 hours): 330 CZK

Tickets can be bought:

  • At metro stations (ticket machines accept cash or cards).
  • Through the PID Lítačka app.
  • At newsstands or convenience stores.

For frequent travelers, we recommend a monthly or semester pass. Student discounts are available!
