Professor Michael Pitts is a lecturer at the University of New York in Prague and head of the English Language Literature section. His academic focus encompasses 20th and 21st-century U.S. literature, with a particular emphasis on science fiction, utopian studies, masculinity studies, queer theory, horror fiction, and literature of the American South. In 2021, Professor Pitts published his first monograph, Alternative Masculinities in Feminist Speculative Fiction: A New Man, through Lexington Books. This work examines how American feminist utopias envision healthier conceptions of manhood, analyzing the centrality of alternative masculinities in these ideal societies. Beyond his monograph, Professor Pitts has contributed scholarly articles to various academic journals. Notably, his article titled "Complicating American Manhood: Marge Piercy’s Woman on the Edge of Time and the Feminist Utopia as a Site for Transforming Masculinities" was published in the European Journal of American Studies in 2020. In addition to his research and teaching, Professor Pitts serves as the reviews editor for the SFRA Review, a journal dedicated to science fiction studies. Currently, he is co-editing a forthcoming volume titled Manhood in 21st-century Science Fiction Television, scheduled for publication by Bloomsbury in early 2025.
